MPSF has raised enough funds to support the Milwaukie Police K9 program for the foreseeable future. The 9K for K9 Walk has become a popular and enjoyable event in Milwaukie for the past 10 years. Our aim is to continue the Walk but give it a new focusof protecting K-9 Officers already in service, by providing ballistic and stab-proof vests to law enforcement agencies whose K-9s either do not have a vest or are using a second hand one.
The MPSF will start working with local law enforcement agencies, or agencies that have a connection to Milwaukie that need such a vest. The first recipient of a new K-9 protective vest is the City of Hubbard Police Department, and K9 Zafa is pictured above wearing it.
While this years walk is going to raise money to buy ballistic vests for Oregon K9s, Milwaukie Police Department has in the past few weeks retired Yago their K9 Officer. The money we have raised in the previous K9 Walks has enabled us to tell Chief Bartol that immediate funds are available for us to purchase and train a new dog, when the department has selected a new handler. That is very much due to the support we have received from all our sponsors and supporters and we give you all a very big thank you.
